In the present work, which is not a theoretical one, the author not only discusses various environmental and ornithological issues but also narrates in a novel way his own experiences in solving them. He has tried his hand in environmental regional planning, restoration of indigenous forest cover in our hills and has taken concrete steps to manage our man-made wetlands. With him, the reader travels of the remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan and Ladakh; with him, he examines how birds survive in our congested cities and polluted rivers and how they help farmers save their crops. The author also provides an insight into the management of our bird sanctuaries and tells about his own experience in organizing a solution to the vexed problem of people’s participation in the conservation of our avifauna.
