This short story is an amazing gateway to Dostoyevsky’s writing. It is about a man who has only known loneliness throughout his life - the unnamed narrator is sharing brief anecdotes with us, prominently of their nights in Petersburg; a sort of before and after here which the reader will witness happening. It has musings on loneliness, dreaming, fantasy, reality, love, travelling, being a mere observer who is somehow always disassociated and joy. Again, this is the type of book that where you can feel the loneliness out loud and off the page - something I did since I relate to the expression so much, hence keep that in mind:)
