The Bhagavad Gita or commonly known as just the Gita, is a spiritual guide that is a part of the great Indian epic, Mahabharata. This 700-verse scripture is written in the form of a dialogue between Krishna and the Pandava Prince, Arjuna and is originally said to be written by the sage Veda Vyasa. The book has been translated and adapted countless times and is referred to as one of the core Hindu scriptures. This edition is a masterful verse-for-verse translation of the original script in Sanskrit by Bibek Debroy. A puritan version of the original work was written between the 5th and 2nd century BCE and the spirit and verve of this original script is maintained in English with the usage of modern language. The text in English is accompanied by the original script in Sanskrit for easy reference, with interpretations and translations accompanied in the form of notes. The book is considered essential reading for the uninitiated and those with an interest in Indian scriptures. It can also be used as a reference guide for scholars.
