An Overview of Nepalese Paper Money
by Jaya Hari Jha together with Deepak Raj Pandey & Bineet
Chandra Jha
Although the history of paper currency in Nepal is not very long,
it is certainly most rewarding for readers to explore the different
varieties, sizes and colours of the various denominations of
Nepalese paper notes which have been issued from time to time.
This is the first book ever to be published on the subject of
Nepalese paper currency. It gives full details, background information
and profuse illustrations on all Nepalese notes, both the commonly
seen ones and the rareties. It is the result of 16 years' research
by the authors.
The volume will be welcomed by general readers, coin and note
collectors and all those interested in the history of banknote
circulation.

Nepal. It is only now that the plight of the Kamaiya is coming
to light. After many long hellish years of bondage, a Kamaiya
freedom movement has emerged and, supported by social and human
rights organisations, has managed to force the Nepali government
to officially ban the bondage system and to cancel the entrenched
debts of the Kamaiya.

using colour photographs and the words of the Kamaiya themselves.

Karmic Ties: A Novel of Modern Asia
by Stephen Long
Karmic Ties: A Novel of Modern Asia is the story of "Pompam",
a handsome "Buffalo Boy" from Isan, Buddhist Thailand's
most impoverished (though culturally rich) region. Miraculously,
the young boy, eldest son of a rice farmer, rises above his lowly
status as a novice monk to achieve an unheard of pinnacle of
worldly success. However, in the process he sacrifices everything
-- including his own body.
A graphic fictionalised account of Bangkok's infamous sex industry,
a disease that has already spread throughout Thailand and now
threatens every country that touches its borders, and so doing
puts all of southeast Asia in cultural, moral and economic jeopardy.
Karmic Ties paints a true picture of life as it really
is. Taking you to faraway places you have never seen, even if
you think you know Asia well. It will move you, entertain you,
and horrify you at the same time.
"Karmic Ties' universal themes of loss of innocence,
greed and corruption, man's inhumanity to man and their inevitable
karmic consequences, have rarely been as vividly expressed as
they are in this raw, new novel." -- Jonathon Ray Spinney,
author of The Awakening of the Red Feather
The author, Stephen Long, was born in Florida and has lived
for over 20 years in Hawaii and the Far East. He currently lives
in Los Angeles and New Mexico, where he writes fulltime.
Mr Long is also an active member of the Board of Directors of
Captive
Daughters , a non-profit organisation dedicated to mobilising
the public will against trafficking and sexual slavery in the
US and throughout the world.

Status of People with Disability in Nepal (People with Different
Ability)
by Dr Lakshmi Narayan Prasad
"Nepal has appalling statistics for disability: 12 percent
of the population is handicapped in one way or another. Those
with a very severe disability are put at 1.63 percent, a sizeable
figure by itself. Recent sample surveys in neighbouring India
have put the disability figure at 1.75 percent, with Himachal
Pradesh being the worst hit where it was as high as 2.57 percent.
Even in absolute terms, these are fairly high figures.
Very few books deal with the status and concerns of differently-abled
people in South Asia. In Nepal, it's difficult to find anything
other than the dull official reports of donor agencies and INGOs
trumpeting their own achievements. In such an arid field, Lakshmi
Narayan Prasad's Status of People with Disability in Nepal
... is a welcome relief.
The author comes from an illustrious family of physicians, and
has himself devoted over 40 years for the welfare of people with
different kinds of disabilities in the country. He has put that
experience, his access to national and international sources
of pertinent information and his insight into this definitive
book on the subject.
No matter how often the silken socialites dabble in 'serving'
the physically or mentally challenged, their true welfare can
only take place under an inclusive democratic process. Authoritarian
and totalitarian regimes have been known to eliminate them: Hitler
gassed them, Pol Pot shot them on the spot. People with different
abilities need to be accepted for what they are."

*** Public Relations ***
Public Relations in the Digital Era
by K M Shrivastava
"The art of persuasive communication, which is popularly
known as Public Relations, has been practiced in different forms
since times immemorial. The rock edicts of Emperor Ashoka are
the oldest surviving examples found in India. Modern Public Relations
has evolved from practices in the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries that were refined during the two World Wars. The convergence
of communication technologies in this digital era, the Internet
and new media paradigm has influenced all professionals, particularly
those that depend on communication. Public Relations (PR) is
one of them. It has changed dramatically from its early days
and the process in continuing. There is a need to look at the
current state of the art. Public Relations in the Digital
Era is an effort in that direction and would prove essential
reading for managers, PR Professionals and students of management
and public relations."
