Answer 3 simple questions on our Pilgrims travel books and you
could
WIN ONE OF THREE COPIES of "A Question of Journey",
a celebratory
collection of travel vignettes on travel in India, Nepal, Thailand
and Bali.
"A Question of Journey", by renowned US travel writer,
John Brandi, was compiled in Asia and is a spirited potpourri
of people and places lavishly enhanced in his visionary collages.
It is a journey through distant lands as well as through the
continent of the heart, rich with non-stop impressions, reflections
and counter-reflections crowding the beholder's eye -- surreal
landscapes of India and Nepal; street theatre in the deserts
of Rajasthan; grim and touching episodes from barbaric urban
ghettos; solitary journal jottings from a Himalayan pilgrimage;
conversations with waifs and prophets, nuns and geoplogists,
tillers of the soil and tillers of the soul. "Travel, step
away from the familiar, touch, be touched," Brandi says.
"Leave home, let the unpredictability of the road shake
your beliefs, find a new way back. Along the way become someone
else."Anyone interested in the more esoteric aspects of
travel -- and of the mind -- will not forget this book.
Entries close on September 15 and winners will be announced on
the website on September 30.
Take a moment now to visit the Pilgrims website http://www.pilgrimsbooks.com

Hardcover
B&W photos
152 pages with index and glossary
$16.75
Sea/Air $4.50/$12.00
Foreword by the Dalai Lama.
Tibet is famed for its majestic beauty, and also for its ongoing
struggle for cultural survival. This collection of photographs
from the British Library shows traditional Tibetan culture before
Chinese rule was imposed. The photographs of John Claude White
and Charles Bell, caught in a window of time, form a treasured
record of the true spirit of Tibet. Whites earlier photographs
of mountains and glaciers give a geographical context for his
more intimate shots of towns and people. Bell,s photographs reveal
an ancient and complex civilization, dominated by the power of
monastic religion.
*** Empire of the Soul: Some Journeys in India

of course it is far more than that. It's brilliant, funny, moving,
and often profound. Roberts writes like an angel. Empire of the
Soul is the most living book about India I have ever read."
-- Colin Wilson
"Vigorous, imaginative, and witty." -- Booklist
*** In the Kingdom of the Gods
By Desmond Doig

An artist,s impression of the Emerald Valley. A collection of
delightful columns, in the Kingdom of the Gods, reflects the
passion Desmond Doig felt for Kathmandu. The land of stupas and
hawkers, hippies and tourists, forgotten shrines and temples,
the home of the Pashupatinath and the Living Goddess Kumari,
Doig was completely enchanted by the city. The columns, in his
characteristic prose accompanied with his vivid sketches and
research by Dubby Bhagat, are lively, poignant and reminiscent
of a forgotten era.
*** Annapurna Circuit: Himalayan Journey
By Andrew Stevenson
Srishti Publishers and Distributors, New Delhi, 1999
ISBN 0094789800
Size: 14x21.8 mm, 5.5x8.5 in
Paper
224 pages
$4.50
Sea/Air $2.50/$6.00
Many disenchanted Westerners have gone to the Himalayas in search
of renewal, but no one has written about the experience as perceptively
and as personally as Andrew Stevenson. A traveller all his life,
Stevenson responds to people and places with an openness unique
to the cultural nomad. His portraits of the men, and women and
children of the Annapurnas, and the fellow-backpackers from all
over the world who intermittently shared his journey, are a delight.
His descriptions of the landscape, and the physical hardships
of the trek are enthralling. But like every travel book of real
quality, this is also the record of a spiritual journey. This
is a modern travel classic in the tradition of Peter Matthiesson,s
Snow Leopard and Andrew Harvey,s Journey to Ladakh.
*** Wonders of the Himalaya
By Sir Francis Younghusband
Srishti Publishers and Distributors, New Delhi, 2000

Paper
210 pages
$3.50
Sea/Air $1.00/$3.00
Adventure stories by one of the world,s foremost turn-of-the-century
travel writers. "A friend chanced to remark that he would
like to look inside my head and see some of my experiences, and
he asked me why I did not write a book for boysBut I doubt if
boys read books written for boys. They like books written for
men. So this is a book written for men, but which, I hope, boys
may read, for it is about adventures I had when I was not much
more than a boy myself." --Sir Francis Younghusband
