FEATURED BOOK
Puspanjali: Vishwo Kabita to Namuna
Translated by Rishikesh Shah. Foreword and preface by Balakrishna
Sama.
Here is a collection of some of the world's most renowned poets
translated from English into Nepali. Poets include William Shakespeare,
Rabindranath Tagore, John Donne, Percy Shelley, Robert Frost,
Mao Tse Tung, Thomas Hardy, John Milton, William Wordsworth and
Najarool Islam, just to name a few. The poems of 39 poets are

poetry is more than translating words. It also means translating
ideas, images, sounds and rhythms. As Robert Frost once said,
"Poetry is what is lost in the translation." Nonetheless,
Rishikesh Shah's admirable achievement in translating this collection
of poems has presented a wonderful gift, like an "offering
of flowers," to Nepali-reading people everywhere.

Jog Mandalika Kabi ra Kabita (Poets and Poems by Jog Mandali)
Compiled & edited by Shradchandra Sharma
In the early years of the 20th century, a period when the Nepalese
government was hostile to any organisational activities by poets
and writers, poets would gather at various houses around Kathmandu
to present their poems to each other.
One early group of poets which met in this way was called the
Jogbir Mandali. This group included renowned poets of their day
such Shambhu Prasad, Lekhnath Paudyal, Deepkeshwor Lohani, Chakrapani
Chalise and Punyanath Lohani. They wrote poems in four languages
-- Nepali, Hindi, Sanskrit and Nepali Bhasa, although Nepali
was preferred.
This book is a compilation of poems written by these men and
preserves for us today this remarkable collection of Nepali poetry.
