Set New Records |
THE three member Millennium Indian Everest Expedition 1999 reached the top of the world's highest peak Mt. Everest ( 8848 m.) by Kangshung face route from Tibet setting a number of new records in the history of mountaineering. Leader of the expedition Ms. Santosh Yadav, 30, Amar Prakash, 35 and Kusang Dorjee, 36 hoisted the Indian Tricolor atop Mt.Everest at 7.10 pm (Nepalese Time) on May 28, 1999. Two of them are the only ones in the world to have climbed Mt. Everest from all the three sides, i.e., Southern, Northern, and Eastern face. Ms. Yadav who led the expedition is the only woman to have led expedition from the Kangshung face side. Ms.Yadav and Ms. Nari Dhami, who were included in the nine member expedition are the first women in the world to have reached South Col (8000 m.) from the most difficult Kangshung face route. |
